If you need a South African police clearance certificate (SAPS criminal record check) for use overseas, it will need to be apostilled through DIRCO. We handle the apostille process for you.

Police Clearance Certificate Apostille

SAPS police clearance certificates are government-issued documents and are apostilled through DIRCO.

Important change — September 2024: DIRCO now requires the original SAPS police clearance certificate for apostille. Notarised copies of police clearance certificates are no longer accepted. You must submit the original.

The Process

  1. Obtain your police clearance from SAPS (Criminal Record Centre).
  2. Send or bring the original to our office.
  3. We lodge it at DIRCO for apostille (5–10 working days).
  4. We return the apostilled certificate to you.

Important Notes

  • Police clearance certificates are valid for six months from the date of issue
  • Submit for apostille as soon as possible after receiving it
  • The certificate must be the original — not laminated, not a copy
  • If you need multiple apostilled clearances, you need multiple originals from SAPS
